FOR FOUNDERS, CEOS AND BOARDS
Technology, security and AI leadership for companies with no transaction planned.
This page is for founders, CEOs, and boards running a company with no transaction in front of them. The questions come up anyway. They concern who leads technology, whether the AI work is governed, whether the security posture can be attested to, and whether the platform can support the next stage of growth. The Technology & AI practice answers those questions and then does the work. Nothing here requires a deal, and none is proposed.
WHAT BRINGS PEOPLE HERE
Five situations that bring founders and CEOs to the practice.
Most companies have more than one of these at once, and they depend on each other. The AI program often depends on data work, and the data work depends on a hire that has not been made. The board asks about all of it in the same meeting.
No senior technology leadership
The company has outgrown the person running technology, and the volume of work does not yet justify a full-time CTO or CISO on the payroll.
An AI program with no governance
Teams are already putting company data through models. There is no policy, no approval path, and no record of what runs where or who approved it.
A security posture nobody can attest to
A customer, an insurer, or an auditor asks which controls exist. The honest answer takes three weeks to assemble and arrives with caveats.
A platform that cannot support the next stage of growth
Every new customer, product, or region takes longer to launch than the last one. The reason sits in the architecture rather than in the effort the team is putting in.
A board asking questions the team cannot answer
What does the technology cost, what does it put at risk, and what would it take to fix. The board wants those in numbers, and nobody has been asked for them in that form before.
HOW THE WORK PROCEEDS
Assess first, then build the fixes or lead the team.
Start with an assessment
Assess
A structured assessment of technology, security, data, and AI against the company's operating plan. Each finding has a dollar consequence and a remediation window attached.
- Fixed scope and a fixed timeline, agreed before the work starts
- Written for the board and the executive team, not only for engineering
- Ends with a ranked short list and what each item is worth
Then build the fixes, or fill the leadership role
Improve & Lead
The operator who wrote the assessment stays to build what it recommends, or takes the CTO, CISO, CAIO, or CDO seat until a full-time hire is warranted. Systems are handed to your team, with no lock-in.
- Fractional technology, security, AI, or data leadership, accountable to the board
- AI governance a customer, an insurer, or an auditor can be shown
- Modernization sequenced to the growth plan rather than worked as a punch list
The assessment is bought on its own and ends with a decision the board can take without hiring anyone else. Build work and the fractional seats are scoped afterwards, against what the assessment found, so nothing is committed before there is evidence for it.

Four diagnostics that each take about ten minutes.
Each diagnostic is built from the frameworks used in client engagements. You answer the questions and receive an estimate of what the gap is costing and the first step worth taking. The result is yours whether or not we ever speak.

Run itFrequently asked questions
What founders ask before the first call.
- We are not selling the company. Is this the right page?
Yes. Most of this work has no transaction attached to it. The practice is hired to run technology, security, and AI inside a company the owners intend to keep. It is scoped the same way whether or not a sale is ever considered.
- We already have a CTO. Where does this fit?
It works beside them. An outside assessment gives an existing team an independent baseline and a ranked plan it can execute against. The fractional seats cover what a company rarely hires twice for, such as security or AI leadership. They extend the existing team rather than override it.
- How fast does the first piece of work move?
An assessment is scoped in a call and runs on a fixed timeline agreed before it starts. The diagnostics take about ten minutes and produce a written result you keep, with no call attached to them.
- Our problem is an AI policy, not a platform. Is that too small?
No. Governance work is a common first engagement, because it is what a customer or an insurer asks about and it is usually the fastest thing to put right. It also surfaces the data questions underneath. The larger work is usually in the data.
- What if the answer is that we do not need you?
Then you hear that early, in the first conversation rather than after an invoice. Where we know who does fit the problem, you get the name.

A few lines on the operating problem: the decision in front of you, what has already been tried, and what the board has asked for. You get a straight answer on whether this is work we do and what the first piece of it would be.
